Radio OverCoat 2015-06-28: See You, Space Cowboy

Play

This week will be the last official Radio OverCoat broadcasted live on Arecibo. Really, that doesn’t mean a lot to you podcast listeners, but for me, Arecibo was my home for 4 years. I’m a bit sad to see it go but realistically I think it’s time the station gave up the ghost and no one else was really in a position to manage the station now that TrueStar can’t do it anymore. The good news is, jmr and I have been in contact with Will from 8BitX, and we’re all packing up and moving over there πŸ˜€ So next week I’ll have a new home there.

In more somber news, Chris Squire from Yes has passed away, so in memoriam I played a few of my favorite Yes songs. And yes, that includes the 22 minute epic “The Gates of Delirium” at the end of the show. Also, Shnabubula has released VGMCast vol 5, and I played my favorite piano piece from that album, despite ironically not even being VGM :P. I also got some new tracks from memme! He doesn’t have a website to download any of his songs at, unfortunately, but there is a soundcloud page. While you’re on Soundcloud, go check out Maxo’s latest, I played his new track “Crush~” tonight as well. Also I think it bears mentioning, but I started tonight’s show off with Mongolian rap music from Ethnic Zorigoo. Get a load of that! Read on for the full playlist:

  1. I should be better at checking these wordpress comments, but yeah, I continued without a break from radio, all the Arecibo staff that were left have moved on to 8bitX and some even brought their shows back, but the constant and more active posting on this website I guess already answered that question πŸ˜›

  2. Hi Scott, you’ve brought to my attention that not a lot of people have been giving you feedback and I just thought I’d at least give something, although it’s terribly late at this point. I listen to your podcast at work in my downtime, which is rare, but I really do appreciate the work that you do here. I have been sick for the past 2 weeks but finally got around to listening to the episode from a few weeks ago announcing your tentative retirement from the station. Although I haven’t gotten around to listening to this particular episode, I did read the summary and see that you will be moving on to 8bitx. I’ve found a lot of great music from your radio overcoat episodes and I’m sad to see you go. Will you be continuing this podcast from 8bitX? I would absolutely follow you over there. Either way, thank you for the work you have put in with these podcasts, I know it can’t be easy.
    Sincerely,
    Kevin K
