Level 99's Battle of the Well-Known OCR Peoples over in UnMod got me thinking about this (and I would contribute if I felt more comfortable writing about real people).

I like the idea of doing some sort of free-form RP or collaborative story on this forum, where we could trade off bits, or RP from the first-person POV of a character. I'd like to start honing my writing skills again but I don't have the motivation, so maybe something like this would be more motivational, and it would be fun. It would also be a nice break from project grind, so morale remains high and remixers or directors don't feel burnt out by all the SERIOUS PROJECT BUSINESS.

We can always discuss setting and any character ideas or limitations, like should we be able to use characters from other media like games or movies, or original creations? Do we want something semi-realistic and have the characters be mostly human and human-like, or do we want to go crazy crossover style and have, for example, Sonic working with James Bond (or if you're Smash nerd, Pikachu working with Samus)? Would the setting be present day, futuristic, western, steampunk, or something else? Just some food for thought.

Would anyone else be interested in doing something like this?

I put possibly because it does all depend on the actual RP we choose. I'll toss some ideas around my head and see if I can come up with any suggestions. I've been kinda wanted to give this a shot somewhere as well, just to see what it's all about, I guess.

Haha comfortable writing about real people? We're writing about their internet stigma's, not them as people.

Seems cool, I'm always for the original stuff though

I'd prefer something more original too; using characters from other media for these things always seemed kind of like a cop-out, unless it's something that takes place in the universe of said media.
My setting preferences would probably be techno-futuristic, modern, or maybe post-apocalpytic would be fun, but I can work with whatever you guys want. As some of you know, Kureejii Lea and I already have a bunch of characters that fit into the Mega Man X universe (the character in the banner image for this forum and the main NGI site is an example of one of these), except their story takes place separately from the MMX crew in a different city on the other side of the world, so if we want to use a preexisting setting, that would be the one I would suggest. :-P But, that's all up for discussion.

True. But I also don't have any ideas. :-P

A MMX setting would be cool, but I expect you and Lea to make a comic out of the story at the end :P

A comic? But I can't draw, and I think drawing a comic would make Lea want to kill herself, which we don't really want. Who would wield the lead pipe and smash remixers' heads in then? I mean, we have Jade with her whip, but it's just not the same...

But yeah, I agree that an MMX-style setting is workable. Most of us are probably familiar with the series and its conventions, and there's plenty of character possibilities. But the question is, would we want to RP this from the first-person perspective of a character (or characters I guess: No reason why the players couldn't control more than one), or trade off on writing a longer story? This forum moves really slow, so an RP would not develop quickly at all since it would probably only be no more than a paragraph at a time at the most. Writing a story and taking turns passing it off would be faster, but trying to write other peoples' characters might not be something that one would want to do.

Hmm.

EDIT: Hey, who voted NO? CURSE YOOOOOOUUUUUUUUU

I vote first person shooter- I mean, first person perspective. And I can totally use my NiGHTS fanmaren maybe. He kinda looks like an MMX character to begin with, but he has no gun. Just a red Gibson SG faded on his back and badass silver nails that will either scratch your face off or pull out some mad fingerpicking...on second though, maybe I'll just model a new character after him since he only exists in dreams. Damn you, reality, for snubbing my NiGHTS-to-MegamanX crossover!

Your character doesn't need to have a gun, or even a weapon. They don't even need to be a reploid: They can be a human or a mechaniloid, civilian or Hunter or Maverick. You could have a reploid character that's kind of styled after a NiGHTS character, with headgear that looks like the jester hats or whatever. Most of my characters have alternate versions, thanks to the fact that I adapted them for City of Heroes, so alternate realities and character adaptions are a-okay in my book!

Is there anyone else out there interested in this, or are L99 and pu the only ones who check the forums outside of their respective projects? Maybe I should annoy everyone by making this thread into another global announcement...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I am not laughing at anyone, really. Simply at how well this complements my style already. :P

I'd be in for whatever floats the boats, so I hope this works out. :D

Hey man, don't laugh: It's better than LARPing!
And actually, now that I think about it, this would probably work better in third person, so perspective isn't constantly shifting. Although it also depends on if it's present-tense or past-tense... I'm probably thinking too far into this, aren't I?

I'm laughing because I was thinking about an idea like this this morning. I've got nothing against it and am all for it.

And... no idea what LARPing is. Not sure I want to know.

LARP = Live Action Role Playing. You know those smelly kids who need haircuts that would be the stereotype of metal kids except for the fact that they're wearing full chain mail and waving around plastic swords in the middle of the big field at [insert college here], yelling battlecries and pretending to actually be in something like LotR? Yeah, those are LARPers.

I'm making broad generalizations and I'm sure they find it fun, but that's too much effort for too little payoff in my opinion. RPing online at least can boost writing skills, LARPing just annoys your shop teacher with questions about iron forging...
