This week marked Yellow Magic Orchestra’s 35th anniversary! I celebrated by playing all YMO material, starting from their first release and moving through the years to the present day, playing some solo material from the band members as well as Sketch Show/Human Audio Sponge side project material. It’s a bit of a distracted show this week as NGI pays tribute to Konami! Larry is concerned about the OCReMix YouTube suspension debacle (help ‘em out! ) and Slider is in the middle of working on Christmas presents, leaving Kyle to do his best to batten down the hatches and play songs from Konami greats like Rush’n Attack, Metal Gear, Gradius, Twinbee, and plenty of others. virt and TrueStar also stop by for a lengthy chat about the awesomeness that is TrueStar’s radio show Noise Channel, virt’s work with WayForward, and…butts.
Slider managed to sketch up a quick art challenge this week, recreating the classic scene from the first TMNT movie: “DAAAAAAAMN!”

In the single largest interview gathering in NGI history, Kyle and Larry are joined by four-fifths of the incredible Mega Man cover band, THE MEGAS. Greg Schneider unfortunately wasn’t able to attend, but Josh Breeding, Eric von Doymi, Mike Levinson, and Brian DiDomenico all join in for nearly two hours to discuss their upcoming Mega Man 3-inspired album release, the influence of Mega Man on their lives, what other game series they’d like to take a stab at (hint: it has to do with horror movie monsters ), and field some questions from the chatroom!
On this all-vocal special, Kyle and Larry call out the vocal haters and lament the lack of Slider, while Kyle gets extremely excited about getting to attend Video Games Live in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theater on June 8th (say hi if you’re there! ) They check out awesome vocal tunes from Jonathan Underdown, Shachou, LuIzA, MintJam, Takenobu Mitsuyoshi, and of course, The Megas!
Slider may not have been able to have been on the show, but she did create a tribute sketch for The Megas: Markered Neenjah!

Beginning a special series of NGI episodes, not one, but two guest co-hosts stepped into the limelight this week: Community guru, former radio show host and blogger Liontamer of VG Frequency and Mae, who’s heading up Around The World: The Super Dodge Ball Project at Overclocked ReMix, join Kyle for a winter-themed show. The tables have turned and Audun “AkumuHau” Sorlie, live from America, gets thrown into the NGI Hot Seat, and the co-host “Triple Threat” review 8bitpeoples’ The 8bits of Christmas and Konami Kukeiha Club’s Salamander Pro-Fusion. Don’t miss this absolutely jam-packed episode!
