Open Circuit #70: MAGFest X Recap (Part One)

January 21, 2012 By: jmr Category: Past Episodes - Open Circuit

For the second year in a row, host jmr attended MAGFest with a mission: document as many of the concerts as possible.  Armed with a portable audio recorder and a few too many 5 Hour Energy shots (and with some assistance from fellow Arecibo Radio host Obtuse), he attended and recorded just about all of the scheduled performances on the MAGFest Main Stage, Second Stage, and in the chip showcase in order to bring you this, the Open Circuit MAGFest X Recap special.

This week’s show features audience recordings from each of the performances on Thursday and Friday, including a one of a kind medley of UN Squadron and T-Square from Temp Sound Solutions, new chip tracks from Disasterpeace and Revengineers, Rare Candy riding the (double? triple!) Rainbow Road, an epic rendition of Ecco the Dolphin from This Place Is Haunted, and a facemelting performance of the entire NES Metroid soundtrack by Metroid Metal (which clocks in at a whopping 26 minutes)!

Tune in next Saturday for Part Two, which will feature recordings from Saturday’s performances!

Rap haters need not apply this week as NGI takes a listen to just a sampling of remixes from the hip-hop artists of the community, including amazing works from zyko, Joe Cam’s Crakaz, Navi, 8-Bit Duane, The Amazing BrandO, and more! Kyle, Larry and Suraida also sit down with the amazing talent of José the Bronx Rican, who talks about his past and upcoming projects, influences in gaming and hip-hop music, and some great insight into his video editing process. Suraida also took an art challenge this week, and whipped up an awesome tribute to José’s ‘Knuckles’ Unknown from M.C.’: Knock Knock Knuckles!
