This edition of NGI celebrates the birthday of seminal and legendary game composer Yasunori Mitsuda! Also, Larry gets distracted by the Atlanta Falcons football game, the three of them lament their lack of MAGFest, and a recount more of Larry’s Twitter escapades arguing the merits of dubstep. The trio also check out a couple of tracks from Apex 2013: Straight to the Top, a collaboration between OC ReMix and the Apex Tournament Series ,  entries from the MAGFest Dwelling of Duels competition, new releases from Ubiktune incuding Preschtale Variations and Danimal Cannon and Zef’s brand new album Parallel Processing, bLiNd’s latest release NESteryears, and more!

As announced last week, Slider will sadly be reducing her time as part of the show to focus on other projects. She will continue to make some appearances on future episodes though, so look out for her to appear on the show again soon!

The Plants take on the Zombies in Round 4 of NGI’s Versus Month, featuring tracks from Metal Slug 3, House of the Dead 4, ZombieSmash!, and Resident Evil 2 representing the zombies while the plants use the power of Mega Man 2 and 6, Um Jammer Lammy, Final Fantasy VII, and the battle wraps up head-to-head with piano stylings from legendary Koji Kondo and nerdy powerhouse Jonathan Coulton! The crew also talk about game they never owned but rented or borrowed a lot, and Slider announces her new Tumblr blog.

Kyle has lined up 50 of NGI‘s most influential remixes, arrangements, and original works, as well as choosing his favorite track from each of the KNGI Records releases for your listening pleasure! The crew recount how they each got into VGM arrangements, Larry talks about married life and weighs in on the Doritos Locos Taco from Taco Bell, the show temporarily shifts to Nitro Film Injection as the crew talk The Avengers (don’t worry; spoilers are kept minimal ), and Slider doesn’t do an art challenge because she’s mean. It’s a short show this week as Kyle & Slider round out NGI’s Japan Month celebration with double the awesome, featuring tracks from Natsume AND Data East games! Kyle also gets confused by Japanese translations as they check out arrangements from Shatterhand, Robocop, Wild Guns, Bad Dudes, Shadowrun, and Lemmings!

Slider also gives thanks to the Harvest Moon series with four tracks from various games in the series, all lovingly selected by her!

Kyle and Slider are back behind the wheel this week as Larry is distracted by the wiles of Otakon. Despite meeting Kyle in person and finding out how terrible he really is, Slider decides to stick around, and the two discuss some of the awesome experiences that they had at San Diego Comic-Con. They FINALLY met Archie Comics‘ Sonic and Mega Man series writer and NGI regular Ian Flynn, saw and played all sorts of cool new and upcoming video games, and otherwise survived the stench of the sweaty nerd conglomerate. Kyle gets jealous that Slider managed to grab a picture with THE Jamie Hyneman, and details his post-SDCC follies (THANKS LEA. )

In between all this talk of SDCC, the two manage to fit in some excellent music, including tracks from I Fight Dragons, Ryu Umemoto, Dorothy’s Cafe, N-JOY, Rellik, halc, Buckner & Garcia, and TWO preview tracks from the upcoming ‘We are ROCK-MEN!’ album!
