It’s an extra-long episode this week before NGI takes a short hiatus, so Kyle & Larry bring it big with a tribute to the ladies of the video game music world, including Michiru Yamane, Winifred Phillips, Yoko Shimomura, Kinuyo Yamashita, Chibi-tech, Monobrow, Rexy, Pongball, Fumapero, and many more! Suraida checks in early in the show to let everyone know that yes, she is in fact still alive and just very busy, while later on Amanda Lepre joins the show to talk about the formation of two amazing video game music cover bands, Desecendants of Erdrick and Those Who Fight, as well as her gaming and music history and what’s coming up with her next solo effort!

NOTE: NGI will be off the air for two weeks as Larry celebrates his wedding and honeymoon with The Lady Paige. GameFuel will continue as normal, so be sure to tune in on Saturday nights at 9 PM EST for your VGM fix!

It’s a show that almost didn’t happen, but Overcoat saved it! Kyle and Suraida are joined by the host of Radio Overcoat and Touhou Tuesday, Scott “Overcoat” Porter, which turns out to be a good thing when Kyle’s internet dies! Scott fills in for the last half with some selections from his personal collection of VGM as Kyle manages to struggle his way back in by using Skype on his cell phone.  Meanwhile, Suraida draws NiGHTS thinking about delicious bacon-wrapped hot dogs, because they are awesome. Kyle, Larry,and Suraida cross the mafia with remixes from Final Fantasy VII, River City Ransom, Grand Theft Auto IV, Pokemon, Streets of Rage, as well as selections from the Hitman: Blood Money and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves soundtracks. Larry argues that hatin’ McDonald’s is a crime and that it’s the finest in American cuisine, while Suraida makes a Face Heel Turn, joining Team Rocket along with Rhino Blastoseed in this weeks’ art challenge!

HOLY CRAP NINE YEARS! Suraida, Larry, and Kyle are joined by original NGI co-host Akumu, as well as Stevo “Level 99″, jmr, and Walan, for a celebration of nearly a decade of video game music radio. It’s a dose of insanity as Stevo and Akumu go on an OCAD-esque discussion of Rule 34, the hosts talk some serious fast food business, and the show completely falls apart at the end as Akumu trolls everyone else with the power of echo. The topics have nothing to do with video game music, but the guests and co-hosts have made some VGM selections, including works from Washudoll, C-Jeff, analoq, Tim Follin, and more!  Also features a short appearance by Mirby, as well as cameos from Ian Flynn and Mae.

Suraida also celebrates the evening’s festivities (which also included the Noise Channel NES Jamz listening party) with an NGI/Noise Channel crossover art challenge!

This week, NGI welcomes legendary composer Grant Kirkhope as part of an episode paying tribute to his career as a composer for critically-acclaimed Rare titles like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, and Donkey Kong 64, as well as the recently-released Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning from Big Huge Games. Grant speaks extensively with Kyle, Larry, & Suraida about his work on Amalur, as well as sharing his thoughts on his time with Rare and giving some background on the soundtracks for Banjo-Kazooie and Goldeneye, as well as sharing the history behind the infamous DK Rap. He also weighs in on the pepperoni debate from NGI’s Meat Special: you’ll have to listen to hear what his verdict is!
